It is Friday night. It has been a long week and you need a night out. Your friends are in town for the weekend and you want to show off. You’ve got the cutest outfit and great shoes to match. One last thing, better grab some extra cash to schmooze the doorman.
Money and drugs are just some of the ways to entice a bouncer, but just what does it take to get out of the line and behind the rope to some of the hottest nightclubs in Las Vegas.
“It’s no secret that most clubs understand that the longer the line the higher the anxiety. That’s where the “side line” comes in” said Norm Clarke, entertainment columnist for The Las Vegas Review-Journal.
So what exactly are the doormen looking for?
“We want to drive people to our club, especially women, usually if you are a local lady we will void the cover” said Jason Myl, promotions host for the nightclub Polly Esther’s in The Stratosphere.
While that might be obvious to some club goers, Myl says the general rule of thumb with letting people in is a ratio of three women to one man.
“Most of the time if an attractive woman comes up with a group of girlfriends we have them wait outside for about 15 minutes just to attract some attention and then we let them in” says Myl.
For men, it is more of a challenge, especially for some of the clubs located on the Las Vegas Strip. Unless you have a group of beautiful blonds, bouncers have revealed there may be a few more tricks to getting past the line.
“The door might charge $200 to get out of the line, but now everyone in that group is still going to have to pay $30 to $40 cover charge. Sometimes, the doorman demands more, maybe $50 to $100 per person” says Norm.
According to a lifetime doorman, who wanted to remain anonymous, guys are usually prepared to pay big bucks to get into some of the Las Vegas hot spots. “Everyone wants to look like a VIP, especially if they are trying to impress someone” he said.
“I have been offered almost everything” says Joseph Cormier, former doorman for Risqué inside the Pairs Hotel and Casino. “They have offered things ranging from drugs like cocaine to $2,500 to get some underage in.”
Cormier admitted to having seen large amounts of money being transferred between patron and host to allow access to the front of the line.
“When the top celebrities show up, we usually bump up the cover. People usually complain about dropping a $300 cover charge, but if you want to meet your favorite celebrity, you will” said Senior VIP host for MIX at Mandalay Bay Casino, Demitri Gavrilov.
The screams of the crowd waiting in line to go in to Pure, at Caesar Palace, can be heard by clicking this link.
But some clubs, like Polly Esther’s, wanted to stress that they do want to drive both men and woman to their clubs.
“My best advice, make some arrangements with us before coming down, let us know how many people are in your party and usually we can compensate” said Myl.
So, for Las Vegas, hopefully you have some beautiful friends, a grip of cash or friendly doormen. If not, I guess you’ll be doomed to wait in the never ending line right outside the club.

Nice writing style. I will come back to read more posts from you.
